Basic Ophthalmic Assessment

Every patient visit begins with a thorough evaluation using our core diagnostic instruments. These form the foundation of every comprehensive eye examination at our clinic.

Digital Slit Lamp
High-resolution examination of the cornea, iris, lens, and anterior chamber structures.

Auto Refracto-Keratometer (ARK)
Automated measurement of refractive error and corneal curvature.

Tonometer
Precise intraocular pressure measurement for glaucoma screening.

Visual Acuity Examination
Standardised assessment of your vision at near and far distances.

Advanced Diagnostic Imaging

Beyond the basics, our clinic is equipped with state-of-the-art machines capable of examining every structure of the eye in exceptional detail.

Specular Microscope
Allows us to observe and count the corneal endothelial cells — the delicate inner layer of the cornea. This is essential before any intraocular surgery and for monitoring corneal health over time.

Corneal Topographer / Tomographer with Dry Eye Analyser
Provides a detailed 3D map of the cornea’s shape and thickness, detecting conditions such as keratoconus, irregular astigmatism, and corneal dystrophies. The integrated dry eye analyser evaluates tear film quality, helping us diagnose and manage dry eye disease accurately.

Fundus Camera with Autofluorescence & Fluorescein Angiography
Captures high-resolution images of the retina, optic nerve, and blood vessels. Autofluorescence imaging reveals metabolic changes in the retinal pigment epithelium, while fluorescein angiography maps retinal blood flow — both critical for diagnosing and monitoring conditions like macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.

OCT — Optical Coherence Tomography (Anterior & Posterior Segment)
Our OCT system provides cross-sectional imaging of both the front and back of the eye:

  • Corneal OCT Topography — Detailed corneal thickness and curvature mapping
  • Macula Assessment — High-resolution scans for detecting and monitoring age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular oedema, and other retinal conditions
  • Optic Nerve Assessment — Precise measurement of the nerve fibre layer for glaucoma diagnosis and follow-up

This single instrument is indispensable for the ongoing management of macular degeneration and glaucoma.

Visual Field Analyser
Maps the full extent of your peripheral and central vision. Essential for detecting and monitoring glaucoma progression, neurological conditions, and other visual field defects.

Surgical Planning — Premium Lens Surgery

As a clinic that performs a high volume of premium intraocular lens surgery, accurate pre-operative measurements are non-negotiable.

Swept-Source OCT Biometry System by Alcon
We use the most advanced biometry system available — the swept-source OCT biometer by Alcon. This instrument measures the eye’s internal dimensions with exceptional precision, allowing us to predict the final visual outcome with a high degree of accuracy. For patients choosing multifocal, toric, or extended depth-of-focus lenses, this level of precision makes a significant difference in the result.

3D Digital Operating System — Alcon NGENUITY®

We are the first and only eye surgery clinic in Cyprus to operate with the Alcon NGENUITY® 3D Visualisation System.

Traditional cataract surgery is performed while the surgeon looks through the eyepieces of a microscope. The NGENUITY® system replaces this with a high-definition 3D digital display, giving the surgeon:

  • Enhanced depth perception — Superior visualisation of fine intraocular structures
  • Greater magnification and contrast — Improved visibility in every step of the procedure
  • Digitally optimised illumination — Less light enters the patient’s eye, reducing phototoxicity
  • Precision at every step — From the initial incision to lens implantation, every movement is guided by a crystal-clear 3D image

This technology gives us a measurable advantage in accuracy and safety during cataract and lens exchange surgery.

Our Commitment to Technology

At Elpis Medical Centre, we invest in the best available technology because your eyes deserve nothing less. Every instrument in our clinic is selected for its proven clinical value, and our team is fully trained to use each one to its maximum potential.

All of our services are available through the Cyprus General Health System (GeSY) or privately.
